Voluntary Dismissal without PrejudiceMA I settled up an old debt in 2003 and was issued a voluntary dismissal notice a few years later. Should this still be listed on my credit report as a judgement? Is there any way to remove it? This is currently holding me back from employment at a job I really want. ![]() |

| It *might* have been possible to bargain for that when you settled but, by paying without that being part of the bargain, it’s no longer an option. The judgment creditor would have had to agree and there’s no longer an incentive. The paid judgment will stay but, unless it’s one of a number of items that you cleared, it’s unlikely that it will stay for the full time possible. Until it drops off, try giving the fact of payment a positive spin with prospective employers – “I had problems at one time and addressed all of them to re-establish myself”. Unless it’s affecting a security clearance or something similar, it might work and it’s all that’s legally available. You can’t force a record deletion. |

| I'd take you up, but my doctor restricts me to the hard stuff. I'll toast you and the new job. Good luck. |
