Walk away from credit card debt?

What is the name of your state? Texas

Thanks in advance for any advice. Im from UK and came to US as a student a few years ago. I have built up 20k credit card debts during last a few years since I have been sick and out of job for a while. Recently Im thinking to move back to UK. According to my situation, I got two questions as follows:

1 if I choose to stay in US but ignore the CC debt, what is the worst penalty I will get? I know they can take my property away, but my main concern is if there is any possibility that I will be sent to jail?

2 if I move back to UK without paying off my debt (Im not able to anyway), will I have any trouble later?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

There is no debtor's prison in the US - it was abolished in the late 1800's.

Later ?? Are you asking if it will follow you to the UK ?? Dunno, possible, worldwide banks might do it. If you mean leaving then coming back to the US - there could be judgments against you, but if you're only visiting, so what ?
