what is bestWhat is the name of your state? North Carolina I am trying to figure out the best way to pay off my credit card debt. I am currently with a debt consoladation company and paying $377.00 a month to all 5 creditors. I had a thought occur to me that if I took that $377 and applied it to one creditor at time until I had them all paid off, I could be out of debt in about 2 years. The question that I have is if I sent only $5.00 a month to the other 4 creditors what would happen? Can they collect if I am paying (even though it is a small amount)? Or should I continue with the debt consoladation, which would put me out of debt in about 5 years? HELP!! |

| Don't do it. The other 4 creditors don't and won't accept the $5/month plan without charging off the account. In fact, FDIC regulations will prevent them from going for this deal and still carry this as a preforming asset. They'll turn you over to collections with all of the bad stuff that entails. Nothing prevents you from paying more to creditors on your own. I'd send as much additional as I could directly to the creditors in addition to the debt consolidation company payment. If the consolidation co. is doing there job and money is actually going to the creditors I'd leave well enough alone. |
