wifes health invoices

My wife and I are separated, shortly after we separated she had a car accident. Since she didn't have any other health insurance then mine. I agreed to stay married but separated and keep her on my insurance until she had some back surgery. We did split all our possessions and we do not have any common bank account or credit cards or anything else.

The problem is that I now am being sued for her hospital bills that she hasn't paid. I was not aware of this prior to getting the papers from court. All hospital bills are from long after we separated, my question is. I am I responsible for them? Question number two if I am responsible, am I also responsible for interest on them, despite that I was totally unaware that the invoices existed and was unpaid?

Because it was your insurance, you can be held liable for the bills.
