Will I be denied ?

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? NH
My husband and I refinanced our home 5 years ago with a 10 year home equity loan. Recently we decided to clear up our new debt and do some fixing up around the house. We have applied for a new loan with the same bank, but this time thay are saying we NEED to provide PROOF of payng off a CHARGEOFF to Lechmere from 1991. I have no such proof. In fact, I believe that due to our being laid off from our jobs in 1991-1992 we never paid. Since then Lechmere has become a defunct company. What can I do? Thanks! Coffee1

Order a copy of your credit report with all 3 reporting agencies. Put a dispute in against that particular item. Since the company is defunct they can't respond and the item will be removed. In addition, it's REALLY old and it seems odd that it's even still showing on your credit report. You should be able to dispute it being on your report just out of the age of it alone..however, just claim that you paid it or that it's an incorrect report...since you can't recall it's not a lie..and since the company is gone..they couldn't reaffirm it even if it wasn't so old.
IF your bank is giving you too much grief with the refi.. Shop around... there are a LOT of great lenders out there that would just about kill for your business...just about all of them will probably chuckle that another lender denied you because of a nearly 15 year old item on your report.
