Short Term Disibility pay & Chapter 11

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Alabama

My employee benefits are 13 weeks short term disibility pay at 100%. I have surgery and am one week into my short term pay when my employer files and begins Chapter 11 bankruptcy. I than find out I must return to work or I will not be paid. Can this possibly be legal? I cannot perform my job one week post op!What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
