What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Colorado

I was contracted to write some software and to have it completed by a specific date. I was not able to complete it by that date and my client imposed a large penalty. I never agreed to any penalties if I was late. Now my client has decided to not pay me, yet they are using my software. What are my options?

Nothing. There was no formal contract. We just had an agreement that I would write the software. And my quote was simply an estimate.
