Different non-compete agreements for different positions

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

Does it make any sense to have slightly different non-compete agreements for different position types? For example a more restrictive one for sales (6-month non-compete), less so for trading (just don't contact clients for 6 months if you leave the company)and restrictive for non-sales (one-year full non-compete?)
