What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC

I have been working for a store for about 3 years and signed a non-compete clause when I started. Well since then the building we are in has started to fall apart. For example the roof is collapsing and there is leaks and mold everywhere in the building. The mold and leaks are very bad for my health and the owner refuses to fix it or at least keeps putting it off. It has now been over a year since the first leaks and hole in the roof appeared. I want to find employment at another store similar to ours but I am worried I will be slapped with the clause. What can I do?
