Possible Dispute with Freight Forwarding Agency

Pennsylvania

Possibility of a dispute with a Freight Forwarding Agency D&W

millennium in NY.

Please suggest precautionary measures.

We had two shipments coming in from India. Shipment A came

in mid october and they invoiced us $1500 as freight charges.

Freight charges being ridiculously more than the value of the

shipment we decided not to pick the shipment up.

Shipment B which has arrived in Early November; they have

invoiced us $306 and we are picking it up.

All the communication has been via emails or FAX.

I have to pick up the second shipment in Baltimore myself.

The problem is they are asking me to send them the money via

cashiers check to New York before even I pick the shipment.

My apprehension is that once I mail them the payment they can

adjust it towards pending payment of Shipment A (i.e. towards

$1500) and then both my shipments would be stuck.

Although the dispute amount is very small, can you advise us

on it. Shall I ask them for something in written before I

send the payment of $306 so that they don’t credit it against

shipment A. Please suggest the best or any other appropriate

step so that I don't end up being cheated.

You are the one who is cheating them--will they have to eat the cost of the shipment that you didn't pick up?

Why would you do business with them a second time after what happened the first time?

Do you have any type of receipt or paperwork that shows the name of the governmental agency that you would file a complaint with if there is dissatisfaction with their services?
