Property Tax Conundrum

Texas:
Our company purchased equipment from the previous tenant of the shop we are currently in. At the time of purchase, we had a lawyer draw up a contract for us which states that we are not responsible for delinquent fees, taxes, etc. Upon filing to pay for this year's taxes, we were advised that the property taxes on the items are currently delinquent almost 5 years, and that we must pay them. Does the contract we have allow us to escape having to pay these taxes (i.e. if we produce it in court or otherwise) and if not, was our lawyer negligent in not ensuring that delinquent property taxes did not exist on the items prior to arranging the sale? What remedies do we have? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

**A: why are you not asking your lawyer?
