What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Ohio

Hello,
I am new to this forum. I have a legal question about a contract that I signed with a fellow colleague. We are both in the same profession.

She hired me as a sub contractor for a few of her clients. There is a non-compete clause in the contract. It states that I am not to solicit clients for 2 years past the time of my termination.

But one client has not renewed her work with my colleague. The client approached me for work, but I let her know that I could not do work because of the non compete clause. The client said that since I was not soliciting her, it would be legal to begin a business relationship with her.

Does anyone have advice on this subject?

Thank you.
