What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MA

A potential employer would like me to perform some work similar to that which I had performed with a company in 2007; which I had left in October, 2007and had signed a two-year non-compete.

The work, issuing a market report on a particular industry, would be ready for after the 2-year anniversary of my departure. The tasks I would be performing in August and Sepetember would likely involve contacting some former clients to discuss the market of interest. I feel this would violate the non-compete, and the potential employer thinks it would be fine.
