1031 Exchange, and other tax questions>>

What is the name of your state? Hawaii
Can someone please explain the exact use of 1031, and if the buyer claiming 1031 pays to do that. I have lived in my home for three yrs. so that excludes me from Capital Gain, what other taxes, or tax "breaks" is there?
