Abandoned property?

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? TEXAS

I'm not sure if I'm even posting this in the right place, but I need to know what legal rights I have. My husband and I bought a home just over two years ago. We bought it from my inlaws who left a large tractor on the property. We had originally agreed we would act as storage for a while if they moved it to a different part of the yard. They have NOT moved it so we gave them notice (via email) that if they did not remove the tractor from our property by December 15, 2003, we would consider it abandoned property, claim it to be our own and do what we see fit w/it (sell, donate, etc). There are three other owners that we've spoken with on the matter and all have given us permission to do w/it as we please. If I donate or sell this tractor, I don't want my inlaws to try to take legal action against us. Do you believe my notice to them to remove the tractor from our property is enough to be able to claim it as my own and do w/it as I please?

E-mail notice is meaningless.

Send them a Certified (RRR) letter.

And make sure you read the Texas L/T laws on abandonned property and FOLLOW them.

How...

...would I go about finding out what TX law is? I've tried searching for it before and could never find anything.

I just did a search on yahoo for the phrase "landlord tenant statutes texas" and clicked on the first result and was directed to the State's official resource for L/T law.

All in 6 seconds.

Try again!

But we're not renting...

We bought the home two years ago. Sorry to be so ignorant, but I know nothing about the law or where to look. I entered in a search for "texas laws on abandoned property"

Did you even read my reply? If so, why would you come back and post again without at least trying to do what I told you?

Then file a small claims action.
