Ohio: We sold our 75 yr old house on May 31. We moved out that weekend, and had planned on giving the keys to the new owners on June 3. When we met the new owners at the house on June 3, we explained to them that due to time, we hadn't had a chance to vaccuum the house yet. They walked through the house, and said that it was ok and they took the keys.
We just got a notice in the mail today that they are suing us in Small Claims court for $6000 (which the limit in Small Claims in Ohio is $3000) because they had to get the property professionally cleaned and the mess made her so sick to her stomach that she couldn't eat in the house for 14 days. However, there was no mess other than the need for a good dusting and vaccuuming (which most owners naturally do when they buy a new house anyways). I am worried that they did something to the house and took pictures or something else. Even if they didn't, my thought is that they are way out in left field and cannot sue us for this.
Please help, I'm losing sleep over this. It's our word against hers, is there ANYTHING we can do? |
