Can we sue seller in small claims court for delay in repair work?

Can we sue the seller for delay in repair work in small claims court?
We agreed a specific time for this repair but he did not respect the time time frame.So this is a breach of contract.
When we want to small claims court they said they will take only cases where some one owes you money....
But in this case he does not owe money to us but because of delay we have financial as well as time,energy some damage and we did not see
many houses during the period we were in contract with the seller.
Can we sue him in small claims court?
We want to sue in small claims court because the lawyers fees are very high
