Question

I currently live and work in IL, planning on transferring to MI and buying my first home. My question is, is it common for the sellers agent to contact my mortgage lender regarding my loan status and how soon a closing can occur? They all seem to be planning a date for closing (within 16 days), which I'm not in agreement with. Also, any insite on closing by mail?

That agent should not be contacting your mortgage company.
You can close via mail.

Yes there is, an it is a Federal Law. In fact several laws govern these actions.

THANK YOU!!!!

Great! That is OUTSTANDING to hear. Since we are out of our contract, I probably will not move forward with a lawsuit, but it is great to know for the future! Thanks again for all your advice!!!

HomeGuru, can you tell me where I can find text of the laws that restrict the seller's agent from contacting the lender?

There is not one law per se but covered under several areas such as NAR Code of Ethics, State law governing licensed real estate agents, privacy laws etc.

http://www.hud.gov search privacy laws
