Contingency Contract

We recently signed a contingency contract to purchase a new home. We had to sell our house. After a few weeks we decided to back out of the contract. The seller is unhappy as the house has been on the market for a couple of years.
He is threatning to get damages, broker commissions and legal fees.
My question is what can I expect to lose under a contingency.

Nothing, if you did not sell your home pursuant to the terms and conditions in the contract.
