Do she owe money to her sister?

What is the name of your state? California

My mom and her sister lived together in a house for 8 years. My mom bought the house and it was in her name. My mom put in new wood floors, new cement and fixed the roof. My aunt received $1,000 a month from ssi that went into a joint bank account.

There was a falling out and my aunt moved out of the house - now she's suing my mom for $5,000 for accumulation of equity. Is my aunt entitled to any money even though all she contributed was what she received monthly?

Thank you,
Linee

**A: let's say that the fair rental value (if your aunt had paid rent) amounted to $500 per month. If aunt paid $1000 per month, then the extra $500 could be considered her equity contribution into the property or a loan to your Mom.
