What is the name of your state?
NY

When I purchased my building 12yrs ago, the seller was required to update the Certificate of occupancy.

An escrow account was required of the seller into which he put $5000.

I was not aware of this and have not received any negative problems for not having an update C/O, until now.

I applied for a loan and everything was fine untill the Bank rejected the loan only because th C/O was not up to date.

The cost to do this is over $8000.

How can I get the $5000 escrow released to me?

A) Seller's lawyer is now deceased.
B) Could the money have been turned over to the state. (How can I find out?)
