Free Living

Florida - I am buying a house from an aquaintence. They would like about 3 months to continue to live in the house after closing while they look for a new place. If I let them live there and later on they "decide" not to move out, do they have any rights to the house to continue living there or can I force them to move?

It's your house. You can force them out. You may have to legally evict them, just as if they were a tenant who stopped paying rent. It may take a month or so and cost a couple of hundred dollars, thought. When I have tenants that I have to evict, I usually offer them a couple hundred dollars to leave. I figure I'll have to spend it anyway, and this gives them an incentive to leave quickly and quietly.

**A: agree to it only if there is say $5000K in escrow that gets released to you if they do not vacate by the agreed upon date.
