I broke a listing agreement**************

My wife and I live in Illinois. We listed our home with a local agent and found him to be a liar, untrustworthy, and border line incompetent. We pulled our home off the market and decided to just do improvements and stay here. Well, this agent has started sending us messages threatening to collect his comission if we decide to sell our home on our own. I responded to his initial message with:
"Unless you can provide me with a list of protected clients that YOU generated, I am free to sell my home to anyone."
This agent never showed our house to any prospective buyers or provided me with any list of clients that even wanted to look at our property. My question is: Was I correct in my response to him about a list of protected clients?.....Jon

Not if you signed an Exclusive Right To Sell agreement.

You should have responded in the offense by stating and listing all his bad things and copy the Illinois Board of Realtors and real estate licensing agency.
