Illegal Possesion of a home

A family friend has a home that she and her husband own. Previously her husband had a substance abuse problem, and she recently found out that during this time, he somehow sold his share or interest in the house for close to nothing and had paperwork notarized to close this deal. Now she found out that indeed, the gentleman's name to whom he sold his interests to appears on her deed where her husband's name once was. The gentleman is now requesting a pay off in order to buy him out of the home that she has invested in and worked hard for all over a drug deal. She is told that what happened is illegal, but what can she do to nullify this? She is in danger of losing her and her children's home, please help!! What advice do you have?
