I was rennovating my mothers home with the agreement that I would buy it from her. I began this work 3 years ago and moved into the home last September while I was completing the attic.
My mother, unbeknownst to me, offered the home to my nephew and his wife. About 3-4 weeks ago she told me about this and told me I had move out, because they were going to buy the home.
I asked her about compensation for my work and materials that I put into the home. She said her attorney would contact me. I had heard from my ex-wife that I might be able to put a "Mechanics Lein" on the property to stop the sale, until I have been compensated.
Would this be the correct route to take? I am also wondering if I can file suit for the amount my work raised the property value and my labor hours?

Nope. Your work wasn't done under a written contract, which is required in order place a lien.

You can certainly file a suit, after all, anyone can sue almost anyone else over almost anything.
However, without some type of specific agreement to compensate, I doubt you have a case. Your post says nothing about paying rent so consider the labor an offset.
