Mold Found During Home InspectionWhat is the name of your state?Illinois We have a contract for a house being sold by owner. Had the home inspection done last week and there was a significant amount of mold discovered in the attic due to poor ventilation. We paid for a mold inspector to come out and look at the entire house, during which he found problems throughout the house with mold being present. The estimated cost of remedy was around $8,000. We as the buyers are now wanting to break the contract based on these findings and are concerned about not retrieving our earnest money. We are not completely sure that the owners were unaware of this situation, however it was not included on the disclosure they signed. Our contract states that since the repairs are over $500, we can either make them pay to fix the problem, lower the listing price of the house to off-set the repairs or to negotiate a deal for remedy. I am just wanting to break free from this contract with our earnest money. What options do we have? |
