Bone yes its fraud if you claimed a homestead and never lived in it and all it takes is one snoopy or angry nieghbor to call county property tax desk , ask for public info , and then tell the county that you are not living there when you are supposed to be in order to earn that credit. NOW in some places if you file for a homestead property tax credit and live there for a set time the credit will carry over for one year and theres no problem with moving out then renting it. But the credit will only last a set time then expire. Alot of it depends on your states homestead tax credit rules. If your going to live in it its best to file for the credit as soon as possible in order to get a time clock started in case your state has a set time for a homeowner to live in it and earn it.
