Obtaining new home Plumbing Blue Prints

Hi,

I bought my new home 2 years ago and builder is stil building new homes in that region. I was asking for blue prints for plumbing but they won't give that to me stating that it is 'copyright' information.
BUT I need them badly as I planning to have some work done at my place and can not allow plumber to tear up walls and drill holes not knowing where the electric/gas/water pipe lines are.
This should be simple but dont' know what makes it 'copyright' protective...and I'm not copying their stuff anyway?

Go to the building department and get a copy.
Plans may not be correct due to as-built conditions.
