Question

Open Houses and Paying a non-realtor a referral fee

What is the name of your state? MO

I have a realtor. He is my brother. I am not trying to back out of paying him. Can I host an open house without him there? If I find someone who refers someone to me who then buys my house, can I pay them a referral fee? Or just give them a gift of money? My realtor thought there might be some legal issues involved in doing either of these.
Thank you for your help.

If you hired a Realtor to sell your home, sit back and let him do the job.

**A: why would you pay a referral fee when you would still have to pay your Realtor? Are you Santa?

No I am not santa. Genius. I would gladly pay it as an incentive to someone who just comes to look at my house, but is not interested, but knows someone who would like to buy it. Not everyone who looks at a house tells their friends about it, but if they had the chance to make a little money I believe they would be more proactive in getting the word out.
A realtor can only get to so many people. I have a vested interest in selling MY house, so please forgive me if I dont just sit back and watch. The realtor is just one tool.
