Open Permit on House Found Two Years After ClosingWhat is the name of your state? NY We closed on our house two years ago. We're in the process of refinancing. The bank attorney said there is an open permit on the house but did not give me specific info. I left a message for the attorney who handled our closing. I called the title company and they said records from 2001 are in storage and will have to find them and call me back. Everyone I talk to says I can sue the title company for missing this open permit. Is this true? I don't really want to sue anyone but I am miffed that I paid title insurance and the research fee and they missed something. I haven't called the town I live in yet as I'm waiting on the atty and title company. What happens if both their records for me come up clean but the bank's isn't?! Help! |

| Go down to your city/town/county records office and search the file on the property. Get copies and review them. If there are outstanding title issues, talk to your title company and demand that they clear them. That is what the 'title insurance' that you paid for is supposed to do. Do NOT rely on others to do your work for you.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport! |

| Writer, are you saying there is an open building permit? If so contact the building department and request that they close it. They may have completed a final inspection and failed to do the paperwork or they may have not been called by the owner or builder to do a final inspection and close out the permit. |
