pool inspection


What is the name of your state? Ohio
We are purchasing a home that has an inground pool. It has not been used for 10 years. Our inspector recommended the dirty standing water be pumped out for a complete inspection. The sellers are refusing to allow us to do this. This might cause the concrete pool to float. We had a date sceduled for the inspection to be done and they refused the inspection. There was no information on the property disclosure form regarding the pool, nor was there a question on the form asking information about a pool. Now that the inspection period has expired they will not give us an extension to have an inspection done on the pool. Help

Why don't all of you simply agree to an addendum to the contract?

pool inspection


Should I be willing to take on a pool I know nothing about? It seems to me they should allow us to have the inspection done if they want to sell their house. We do have the option to walk away, but we really do not want to. We want the house with the pool. How much value does a pool add to a property?

Actually, in Ohio, it doesn't add anything to the property. A pool actually makes the property more difficult to sell. Man, do you have a bunch of pet penguins, or what? For God's sake, it's 28 degrees out there right now.

What I meant was enter into an addendum to the contract regarding liability and expense if it's subsequently found the pool has some problems. The sellers might not go for it, but it won't hurt to bring up the possibility. Seems to me an inspection isn't unreasonable. If they steadfastly refuse, then you've actually already answered your own question. If a pool means that much to you, and you don't want to risk possible pool repair expenses after the sale, then walk away. It's not the only house on the market with a pool.

OK let me ask you this, what if we get an inspection done the way they want and it shows there are problems, is it unreasonable to re-negociate the purchase price on a pool that is not adding any value? It's 28 F -2 C burrr

A pool in your backyard. Statues of Woody Hayes and Maurice Clarett in your backyard. There's no difference. The value is purely in the eye of the beholder. Obviously, they're concerned the pool could be damaged during the inspection you feel is necessary. Otherwise, they would allow it. If you can't reach some sort of resolution, then walk away and find another house. What's the big deal?
