Question

This is for a friend in Florida. She is buying a home. She has been on section 8 for quite some time. She used the help of SHIP to help get a home. Everything went through. Found a house put a bid, owners excepted and a closing for Feb. 23, 2001 was set. Now she finds out there is a lien on the place and the owners owe the town $2,800. These people live out of state and had the Realty company handling there property. This problem of the $2,800 has been going on since July of 2000. And my friend has only just learned of it. Problem is..if they don't or can't close on the date in the contract...she losses her section 8 and her rental property. Becomes homeless and unable to afford a home for her and her daughter. She is becoming unstable now. What can she do? Does she have any legal rights?

She can still close if escrow uses some of the Selers proceeds to pay the lien off at or prior to closing.
