Realestate buyers question

I currently put a bid on a house that the asking price was 69K the bid i placed was for 57K. The next day i received a call from my realestate broker telling me that the seller had made a counter offer to me of 65K. At that point i told my broker to offer them a counter bid of 60K. Approximently 1 hour later i received a call from my broker explaining that a couple from the night prior viewing the house with a diffrent realator and was going to be coming in and placeing a bid on the house. I told him to give me a few minutes while i called my wife and discused the entire thing. After consulting with my wife we deceided to go a head and give the seller the amount of their counter offer. I called my realator back and told him that we would accept the sellers counter offer of 65K. He ask when we would come in to sign the contrat and i told him that we would be in that evening. Later that evening at 5PM CST we showed up at the realastate office and signed a contract. They told us that we would receive a call later that night at approximently 8:30PM. AT 10PM the realator called and said that they did not hear anything yet but would let us know as soon as possable. I asked the realator that since we accepted the sellers counter offer isnt it a done deal. The realator said that since the counter offer was not in writeing that the seller could still accept offers and did not have to take are offer now. He also told me that there was now another offer on the sellers desk and the seller was to deceide by Sunday if they would take either our offer or the other buyers offer. I guess my question is this legal and since we accepted the sellers counter offer before the other couple put there offer in should the other buyers offer even be considered. I have heard that a offer can not be made while another offer is on the table is this true. ANd is there anything leagle that we can do about this if we would lose the house. In my eyes this should be have been a done deal but i feel that we are getting the short end of the stick

We live in ILLINOIS and live in PERRY COUNTY

Your post could have been made in 2 sentences.
Your Realtor is correct.
And remember the word is Realtor, not realator, although at times some may act like a predator.

homeguru,
I have read a lot of post here where you have replied and I wonder why are you so ugly to people? Maybe they could have written it in 2 sentences, but so what, if the long post bothered you, why did you reply...just to be nasty?

My response: let me take this opportunity to explain very clearly because it appears that you are grossly ignorant of the actual and factual circumstances.
Time is money and I reply to the posts on this website as a community service. I don't get paid here. That's why I need to work fast so that I have time to help as many people as possible.
If I have to waste my time reading a post of 2229 words where just 100 words would have sufficed, I have wasted valuable time. Time that could have been better spent responding to other posts and helping other writers that also need help.
You are so ignorant that you failed to realize that my post actually contained my response.
In addition, if you had simply bothered to read the posting instructions before spouting off, you would have realized that the red letters above are there for a purpose. There is a reason why the instructions state, "Be Brief; To The Point"
So before you start citicizing anyone on this or any website forum, do your research and homework first before prematurely and immaturely blabbing off like a motley fool internet newbie.
HomeGuru has posted over 13,500 posts to date; and you, just one of a nonsense frivilous complaint.
So, you have a choice. Keep reading and enjoying this website quietly, or find another website to post on and prove your ignorance.

Your ability to be nasty obviously comes natural along with your disrespect for others, you should be proud of your outstanding
morals and your dedication to work so hard at ripping people apart at the slightest grammarical mistake.
Keep up the ignorance...Time is wasteing!
oops... 1 more thing...I'll post where I want, you don't boss me.
