Realtor fee

What is the name of your state? Alabama

We put a contract on a new house and suddenly realized that we have agreed to pay half of the realtor fees, the realtor who did the contract is hired by the builder not us. She told us she is only a mediator and not our realtor.

Can we back out of the realtor fee and return this cost back to the builder?

If not, is it legal to drop out of the contract and get our own realtor and put a new contract on the house. We did put down $1000.00 earnest money but would rather lose that than $7000.00 on unnecessary fees at closing.
