Realtor has bungled the sale of our home.

What is the name of your state?
Georgia. We have a realtor that has messed up a contract to sell our home. She presented an offer to us that was incorrect because she read the number wrong. In addition, she has been sloppy and difficult to work with. When we signed the contract that we would pay a total commission of 5% if we bought our next house with her but six if we did not. I do not want to use her to buy our next home. She has lost our confidence and may have lost this sale because of her mistakes. There is a small chance this sale may go through. Can we insist on the 5 if the sale goes through.

5%, WOW times are so tough most brokers are taking 3% maybe 4%. Did you allow this clause of 'buying' into a contact and sign it? And think it was a deal?

So you are saying, you will pay a 5% commission to the Realtor if you sell this current house with her, and IF buy your next one through her??? Otherwise you pay 6% if you don't buy through her and you would somehow be on the hook for another 1%? This sounds unethical. She saw you coming.

Didn't you read the correct number on the contract before you signed it?

If the sale goes through - you will owe 6% if you do not buy your new home through her. A contract is a legal binding document.

6% isn't bad

What if the sales price of their home is $20,000.

that's only $1200 total commission for 2 real estate companies to split.

$600 bucks a company?

6% seems pretty cheap to me.

But since the sales price was never mentioned, I guess I shouldn't comment on whether or not the 6% is high or not.... and neither should anyone else.
