Realtors avoiding my listing


What is the name of your state? Centreville, VA

[b]Realtors are avoiding our listing due to the fact that we have power lines behind our property back in the field. Some realtors will not bring our listing to the attention of their clients and refuse to preview/show our home. Just wondering if this, in any way, is a form of discrimination.[/B]

"Homes with power lines" is not a specifically protected class of citizen under the constituttion.

How do you KNOW/NOT KNOW what "some Realtors" are doing?

What is YOUR Realtor doing?

Many Buyers do not want to look at homes which are located next to high power lines.

Keep in mind that approximately 70% of Buyers find the homes they want their Realtor to show them on the internet. Realtors may e-mail their customer/clients MLS listings and have Buyers do a drive-by to see if they like the neighborhood. Buyers ultimately make the decision not to look at/buy a home near power lines.

I've had many realtors make an appt. to preview our home for their out-of-town clients then they never show up. Upon contacting them, I find out that they have marked us off their list of showings because of the power lines. One realtor informed me that she is new and her manager has instructed her to stay away from houses near power lines. I suggested to her that she should allow her clients to at least look at the house and make their own decision. She was not agreeable to my suggestion. The power lines are way out in the field, well behind our property line and pose no health threats. The power company came and measured the ElectroMagnetic field and claims that standing in the kitchen with the microwave on or putting a cell phone to your ear is more detrimental to one's health.

All I can say is that you can not force someone to show your home. You can not suggest to a real estate agent how to do their job.

It is unfortunate that you own a home that is now difficult to sell due to it's location. That is/was something you should have considered prior to YOUR purchase of the property. You should always look at future resale value.

In any event, the agents are not doing anything illegal in my opinion.

Homes with power lines in close proximity are very unappealing. Especially to prospective buyers with children.

On the other hand, you can concentrate on making your home and grounds so appealing that the prospective buyers will not notice or care that there are high power wires near by.

One EASY way to get Realtors to show your house is to offer them MONEY!

One EASY way to get Buyers interested in buying your house is to reduce the price! After curb appeal, cleaning, closets, kitchen, bath towels, basement, photos, MLS, contracts, disclosures, school information, flyers, newspaper ads, Internet, etc are taken care off.

Va. is a bugs and bunnies state. They are very into environmental issues. As has been recommended, look into what you can do to make your home more attractive to buyers.
