I bought a house in Ohio in Sept 2000. I used FHA financing. The basement wall was bowing inward, but had some structural supports to brace it. Both my inspector as well as FHA original inspector admitted they are not qualified to evaluate the integrity of the wall. FHA then sent a structural engineer to the house to evaluate the wall. He stated that it was structurally sound. Now I am being told by 2 different experts that the wall is NOT sound and that it could possibly collapse in the future. Can I hold FHA or the structural engineer responsible for some or all of the cost to repair the wall. FHA would not have even approved the loan if the structural engineer had not claimed the wall was fine...and I definitely would not have paid the same price for the house if I knew that it needed this repair. |
