seller backed out

What is the name of your state? wv
I recently tried to purchace a piece of property on land contract. the seller gave me the terms ( down payment, purchase price etc..) after looking at property I decided I wanted it and give him a check for 1000.00 good faith money and return recieved a receipt showing purchase price, the 1000 and the remaining balance as well as the proprty address with his signature. the following week we set down and wrote a proprosal showing payment amounts terms etc. and he took it to his lawyer to draw up final paper work. the day before we was to meet with his lawyer to finalize he backs out can he do this?

**A: possibly, depending on the terms and conditions in the proposal.

the proposal didn't mention anything of either party backing out it stated payment amount, interest and term length, due date of first payment and that buyer is responsible for insurance, taxes, maintence. and that the 1000 dollars was toward the total amount of down payment that was due day of finalizing which my check has cleared the bank

Have an attorney review your proposal. It may be that the proposal lacks all the elements in a contract in which case the Seller has a right to back out.
