Seller backed out

What is the name of your state? Alabama
My situation is similar to the one in FLA.

I found a home I liked and made an offer for $10,000 less. They faxed their counter offer for $3,000 more. I jumped on it and had my Realtor send in the acceptance. I provided $1000 good faith money and began to provide them with all the documents that was required. While I was sitting with my lender applying for my VA loan, she stated that the original p/w she sent confirming my loan had to be re-done. They had contacted her and stated that they wouldn't take cross outs (It was being sold by a relocation company). She stated that everything was in order and we should be getting a confirmation either that evening or the next morning. We had them fax over the latest inspection reports for me to review. When I contacted my realtor about the reports, she stated they had informed her that a higher offer had come in and they were selling the house to them. I was told that until a written confirmation of the contract was sent by them, they were allowed to accept other offers. I feel something unethical has gone on here. Does the faxing of the counter offer and my proof of acceptance with good faith money account for anything? Or am I just out of luck and helpless to do anything about this?

Do you have a copy of the purchase contract signed by both parties?

contract

I have their conter-offer which I signed off on. They kept delaying sending us a copy of the confirmed contract.....asking that we retype the lender p/w and resubmit, etc. We responded immediately. They did send us the inspection reports right after that, but never did send us the signed contract as they promised that it would be sent either the night of 5/7, or early the next morning. After reading over the counter offer, it appears they were trying to sell me the property "as is" so as not to be liable to repair a major Radon problem in the house.
