| | | seller failed to disclose fire damage What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TX
I closed on a home last week and started remodeling this week. In several places where the sheetrock has been removed the support boards are charred & burned. The initial discovery was in the kitchen & I thought it was prob a very small & localized fire -- but now it is obvious that it was a fairly significant fire (contractor thinks whole house may have burned & roof & rafters were replaced). Nothing is anywhere that the inspector would have been able to see the damage -- it is all behind the sheetrock (which was obviously replaced). What recourse, if any, do I have at this point? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? |

| | | And perhaps the fire and repairs occured prior to this seller selling it.
And lastly, what current, unrepaired fire damage is there? |

| | | Many buyers have no idea of the history of the home, and then sell. It's very possible, if this fire occurred before your sellers ownership, that they had no knowledge of the fire. I bought my house, for example, from a family who were acting with a guardianship for an Alzheimer's patient. No way I would be aware of what is behind the drywall or plaster! Even 13 years after being here.
