selling home

my boyfriend and i bought a house in maine last year. he provided the money $24,000 for the downpayment. we used credit cards to finish off the upstairs, approx $13,000. i am currently living in the house and it is on the market to be sold. we had agreed, in writing, that after paying off the mortgage and credit cards that i will receive $5,000 and he will receive all other monies, this will be about $27,000. he now wants all the proceeds from the sale. what are the laws in maine regarding unmarried couples and is the writing agreement binding.
