Parents are buying a house for me and my fiancee to live in. They made the hefty down payment, we are paying the mortgage payments. Title is in mine and my parent's name. Fiancee wants to be on the mortage. Does that mean my fiancee has an legal right to the house? |
My response:
Good, let her be on the mortgage. Then, she'll owe the debt as well as everyone else. Insofar as ownership is concerned, owing a debt (being on the mortgage) doesn't give her ownership. For that, she'd have to be on the title. But, in the event of a split-up, you can hold your hand out and say, "Honey, since you're on the mortgage, I want to see some 'green' in my palm."
