divorce and custody case from the state of Kansas. Custodial parent moved without permission into Iowa. Did not know where he or children were for many years, just recently in the last few days mother found out the daughter and her father are living in a town in Iowa. Daughter is 17 and does not want to live with father. In fact daughter may not be living with father now, but may be living with another family. She-daughter wants to live with Mother in Kansas. Can daughter just leave Iowa and then go live with mother in Kansas, where the divorce and custody is on file. this is all new, and sketchy, seems there are some problems in the daughter's life, she is currently in some sort of "alternative highschool" with about 20 other students. As mentioned, this is just brand new information. Help! :) Each day brings a little more information, this is hard to explain due to complexity. Can Mother and daughter agree, and mother travel to Iowa pick up daughter and bring her back to live with her. Daughter definitely does want this to happen!

NOpe. Why didn't mother go to court and file for contempt and change of custody when dad first moved without permission. It could have been done and given mother custody. Now she doens't have custody. And to get it would take a while. NOt to mention more details are DEFINITELY necessary.

No, its not that simple. When will the daughter turn 18?

Talk to a local attorney about the possibility of emergency custody orders based on the facts of the situation (dad disappearing with child, just located, child wants to be with mom, etc.)
