I keep crunching the numbers, and none of it makes sense.

He's either not working full time or he's making far less then minimum wage.

6.00 dollars an hour would be 480.00 every two weeks.

Social security and medicare taxes would be about 36.00
Federal Income tax at single and zero would be about 45.00
I don't know AZ rates but assume 5% for the purpose of this exercise 24.00

Total taxes: 105.00

480 - 105 - 165 = 210.00

Therefore I have to assume that he is making at little better than minimum wage....or perhaps does not have as much withholding.

However, someone making not much better than minimum wage, can't afford a 600.00 apartment (at least not alone) even if they aren't paying child support. Even without child support its unlikely that OP's take home would be more than about 800.00.

Except he claims to be working 16 hour days. One would think he'd be bringing a bit more home with those sorts of hours...

Actually not necessarily. My husband earns $11.50 an hour. After paying child support and taxes he brings home $185 a week with a forty hour week. Child support includes the health insurance payment. This is for ONE child. His ex has currently decided that she needs to go for MORE child support from him.

1. Don't worry about reducing the amount of support you have to pay -- it likely will never happen. Prepare to meet the $330 obligation every month.

2. Taxes: Are you overpaying? If so, changing your W4 withholding might free-up some extra cash each month.

3. Rent: Getting a roommate would cut your rent in half.

4. Campman13: Go camping. During my divorce, I lived out of my SUV for 66 days. Showered at the gym. I froze my butt off in OK -- AZ won't be so bad!

5. Work 16 hours a day? Why not. Make sure your days off are the same so that you can spend time with your kids.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Good luck.

If you were still living with Mother you would still be supporting children! How has anything changed? Your children cannot support themselves and its moral and legal job to do so! If this is biting into your budget too much then perhaps a live style change is in order! Children are not a burden! You can request modification of support but its not likely you will get it. Your just going to have to make some serious changes.
