A 16 year old girl in Florida wishes to live with her biological father instead of her Grandparents, who have been her gaurdians untill now. If her Grandparents wish to keep her from living with her father can they? Her Grandparents are not biologically related because they adopted her mother. It is definately in the best interest of the child to live with her father but he may not be able to afford the legal entaglement. She was born when her parents were unable to care for her, and her parents were never married. Her mother lives elsewhere and hasn't spoken to her in years. Can her Gparents force her to stay with them and not her father untill she is 18 or can she choose who she lives with now? Her reason for wanting to leave is her grandparents treating her badly.

You can file a petition to modify custody pro se. Meaning without an attorney. The judge is verylikely to take the wishes of the child into consideration beings she is 16.

A veryinformative link that you can read about custody/visitation etc... is at:
