I tho't the food stamp program was solely based on income. My family's rec'vd that help for years. Now the State has stopped the stamps (a mere $36/mo) because I refused to hand over $350/mo. in Court ordered child support that my children have ALWAYS rec'vd... I tho't Fed. law prohibited the States from demanding repayment of food stamps, although I know current Fed. legislation allows for recoupment of cash benefits (Title 42, Ch.7, Subchapter IV, Part D) but what's being done here doesn't seem on the level! Can anyone answer?

The support your children receive from their father is meant to pay back what you are getting in monthly welfare monies and food stamps. Since you are refusing to pay the county back for their supporting your family, they have the right to discontinue your case, and refuse to give you food stamps, due to the fact that you have this income and can support your children on it. If you want food stamps, give them the money, if not keep it and have your case cancelled for non-compliance with their rules.

You think it's OK for us working people to pay for your welfare? NO, you are not our responsibility. Though you are your X's responsibility (in paying support). Do you know that if you continue to collect welfare, he can use that against you to gain custody of the children? It has happened, I've seen it in court where a mother thinks she can sit on her butt and collect welfare, and the father comes in and shows that she is dependant on the state, and is granted custody.

You know what? I don't just "sit on my butt" and collect welfare! I take care of two severely medically and physically disabled children! I spend much of my time in hospitals, clinics, doctors offices and in occupational and physical therapist's offices with these children! I WANT to work, had a home-based business that FAILED because of the time I have to spend taking my children to their specialists! My X's pay taxes, and SO DO I! Everything I buy (food, gas, water, rent, toilet paper, toothpaste, hygiene products, laundry products...EVERYTHING is taxed!) I can ASSURE you if the gov't figured the expenditure of the taxpayer's burden for the asstc. my children have rec'vd, the same % or MORE has already been paid in by my X's AND MYSELF in the past 16 yrs to have ALREADY REPAID our debt!
