What is the name of your state? IL

Perjury is when you lie under oath, correct? In family court this sure seems to happen a lot though, both in the court room and during depositions! During a recent custody deposition a person swore they DID NOT, NEVER HAD, and NEVER WOULD purchase or have possesion of a certain item/items. When shown actual purchase records with their name & address as the recieving addy, and advised various additional records would be supeonead, they still held to their statement. There were several other lies before and after that one, but no others with "proof on hand".

ARE there any potential consquences? If so, what? Hurt credibility and making the judge less likely to believe their testimony? Or could it carry more serious consequences such as fines, immediate loss of custody, or even inprisonment?

The most immediate result would be the loss of credibility in the eyes of the court. Immediate loss of custody is not an option based on the example you provided where the person lied.

if the lies result in your attorney having to spend additional time to prove an important issue in the case, you may request attorney fees for that additional time.

IF anyone lies under oath, whether on the stand or in a deposition and get caught depending on how big the lie they could be held in contempt. It probably won't affect custody matters unless what they lied about is something serious(buying something they said they didn't probably won't matter).
