What is the name of your state? Maryland

My ex is threatening to voluntarily terminate his parental rights to our small children. I am not sure if he is serious or not. However, if he is, can I object to this? What is the impact if I do not agree to this?

Also, out of curiousity, can a visitation order be enforced against a parent who does not choose to keep to the visitation schedule. I understand that as a nonlegal matter, it is probably better for the children not to force a visit on a parent who does not want it. But as a legal matter, can the visitation order be enforced against an unwilling parent?

In most states you cannot voluntarily terminate parental rights without a stepparent adopting, so unless this is the case than it's possible he can't do that.

Visitation cannot be forced on someone.

Wow! Thanks for the quick responses. I imagine that I should have added that I am the CP (although that was probably implicit in my question about visitation).

My ex's "reason" for wanting to terminate parental rights is so that he does not have to see me anymore. That can certainly be accomplished by means that are less drastic and less harmful to the kids (and for that matter, to him).

Thanks again.

Honey please don't take this member's blurbs to heart... they just honestly don't know any better than to be miserable and intolerable to anyone they encounter. And are apparently too ignorant and callous to try and understand that life happens to people sometimes.

Wakeup call senior members!!!!......Wrapping it doesn't allows prevent conception.

I was told I couldn't have children, by many specialists...and still wrapped it for safety's sake, you never really know these days...and still have a gorgeous 3 month old daughter, that I will have to spend the rest of my life defending from my ex, his habits, and his family.

From my own experience on this site, there are certainly a lot of members that will try and shut you down for what you're interested in, but remember that you didn't come here for personal advice (not mine, or anyone else's), but in my opinion, your priority is to protect that child of yours, cause no matter how it got here, it's here, and you're it's momma. Even if that's from the father unfortunately. Best of luck to you hun!

voluntary termination

Sorry I don't have answers, but perhaps you can help us. Our grandchild's mother wants to voluntarily end her parental rights, but we haven't found a way to do this yet. If your ex decides to end his parental rights, will you please forward to me any information helpful; form names, etc. Thank you.

He can not TPR if you object or if there is no stepparent to adopt.

You, nor anyone, can make him see the children ever again if that is what he chooses to do.
