I have been paying child support for two years for a child i never seen. A default was entered against because i missed the paternity testing, ever since i have been paying child support. The child is now 4 years old and the mother told me that she would return the checks to me if I sign a paper stating that i want to give up my rights as a father. She said it is because she wants to go to Puerto Rico with her new husband and 2 other children and that he wants to adopt the child that is supposedly mine. Right now she is collecting assistance for the 4 year old.

Is there any way that these payments can stop if she doesn't want me to be a part of the kids life?

What can i do to handle this situation?

Consent to the adoption then. Otherwise, you're obliged to help support the kid - and it's your responsibility to enforce your rights. So if you want to be part of the kid's life - get off your butt and do something about it.
