What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Pennsylvania

i had a son 22 years ago and his father deserted us when he was one year old. i was on public assistance and could not locate him to apply for support. all i was told was he left the state of PA. yesterday, he contacted my son online. would i be able to take him to court for back support now that he has finally resurfaced?

No. You should have filed for support, "ass"uming paternity was established, while the child was a child. That way even if he could not be located, a still-collectable arrears balance would have built up.

What did the county have you do while you were on PA? Did you just tell him you had no info on him and no way of contacting him???

In addition, any support owed while a custodial paretn is on public assistance is owed to the state, not the parent.

I'm sorry but that ship has sailed. Was paternity ever established.
